Anantapur – Sathya Sai: ‘Sundarbam’, a cross-cutting platform of people and civil society organizations, discussed in detail the impending drought situation in the district caused by failure of monsoon.

Scenes from a local meeting NGO75 resource persons were present at the home and coordinated by senior journalist Susara Ramesh.

Agricultural scientists, representatives of political parties, NGOs, farmers, retired government officials, and 19 members of civil society organizations participated in discussions on drought mitigation. Participants spoke at length about the severe drought plaguing the district, withering crops, the power crisis, the return of dark drought-era conditions, and the government’s lethargic attitude. The government should also declare a ‘Drought Directive’ and take measures for drought relief.

The meeting passed a resolution calling on the government to take NGO steps to implement conservation irrigation and save the crops that have emerged.

They also demanded that the government compensate farmers who suffered losses while sowing seeds and those who did not sow seeds due to fear of bad monsoon weather.

Speakers called on stakeholders not to lose hope and to support farmers during this difficult time. Members of the civil society decided to visit drought-hit villages and submit a report to the government. The members decided to meet the district collector within a week and submit a memorandum in this regard. The meeting also called on members who are active in the whatsapp group to physically attend the monthly meeting.
