TIRUPATI: The first suspected case of death due to novel coronavirus was reported in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathya Sai district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Bhaskar Joshi (83).
District Medical and Health Officer S. Krishna Reddy said Bhaskar Joshi underwent open heart surgery and was suffering from various complications. He was admitted to Sri Sathya Sai Super Specialty Hospital in Puttaparthi and put on ventilator.
“The doctor conducted a rapid test and the patient tested positive for coronavirus. However, we were only notified by the hospital after the patient passed away. As a precautionary measure, we “We have taken steps to prevent the spread of the virus through a series of stringent measures,” the DMHO asserted.
Meanwhile, four suspected cases of coronavirus infection were reported in the temple city of Tirupati.
In the wake of a sharp rise in the number of coronavirus cases in certain states across the country, the District Medical and Health Department has resumed testing for COVID-19 at the SVRR Government General Hospital in Tirupati. Of the 20 people tested, four were confirmed positive.
Although two of them were asymptomatic, they volunteered for home isolation and two patients, including a 70-year-old elderly woman from Bangalore, were admitted to the isolation ward here.
After inspecting the Covid-19 testing facility and isolation ward at SVRR Hospital on Friday, DMHO University Srihari told reporters that a person who tests positive in a rapid test is considered a suspected case until confirmed by RT-PCR. He made it clear that it was not too much.
He added that COVID-19 testing facilities have been expanded across the district and asked the public to once again adhere to COVID-19 safety measures as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases in India since its outbreak in the country in January 2020 has reached 4,510,944, with 702 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 has reached 533,346, with six new deaths reported in the past 24 hours.
