Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar paid a moving tribute to his late spiritual leader Sathya Sai Baba on his 96th birth anniversary. The GOAT of cricket penned an emotional post on X (formerly Twitter) for his late guru. The icon summarises the five principles that the guru espoused: truthfulness, purity of intention and action, pacifism, love for God and all living beings, and non-violence. These principles are considered so dear to the Indian psyche that they resonated with so many that the guru achieved cult status during his lifetime.

“The five fundamental human values he upheld are truthfulness (satya), right conduct (dharma), peace (shanti), love for God and all living beings (prema) and non-violence (ahimsa). Remembering Sathya Sai Baba on his birthday,” the post read.

The post went viral on the microblogging site, garnering 337,700 views and 11,000 likes.

Bollywood actor Ritesh Deshmukh retweeted Tendulkar’s tweet and wrote, “Om Sai Ram.”

“The calm gaze of Sai Baba of Shirdi continues to be a source of inner peace for countless people. His teachings, which emphasize simplicity and love, resonate through time. #SaiBaba #SpiritualIndia,” wrote X user.

“Values are a solid foundation!” wrote another.

Others, however, were not so forgiving. One user criticized him for saying nothing about the millions killed and displaced by the bombing of Gaza: “Aren’t you ashamed to speak about human values? You are a UNICEF ambassador and you haven’t said a single word about the people of Gaza or innocent children,” the user wrote.

Who is Sathya Sai Baba?

He was an Indian guru who claimed to be the reincarnation of Shirdi Sai Baba, a revered 19th century spiritual leader.

In 1972, Sai Baba established the Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, through which he has set up several free super-speciality hospitals, clinics, water projects, universities, ashrams, education technology platforms etc.

His followers believed he could perform many miracles, including clairvoyance and miraculous healing.

His students included celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan and many famous cricketers like Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kunbru, Shivraj Patel, MK Stalin and Chandrababu Naidu.
