Anantapur: In a major development, the Sathyasai district police on Friday arrested Murvapalli Raj alias Saraswati, the district commissioner of the Western Ghats Special District of the outlawed CPI-Maoist, at Mamilakunta intersection in Puttaparthi mandal in Sathyasai district.

Mulvapalli Raj, who hails from Sunnambalipalli village in Thanakal mandal in Sathyasai district, was a resident of Ayyappa Nagar in KR Puram in north Bengaluru. The 45-year-old carried out Maoist activities in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra under the name Saraswati.

Police chief Madhava Reddy said she was believed to be the chief architect of many operations carried out by Maoists in the triangular areas of Andhra Pradesh, as well as Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. It is said that

Acting on a tip-off, Sathya Sai DSP Vasudevan, Inspectors N. Rabindranath and Inspector Ragiri Ramaiah and their team arrested the Maoist leader at Mamilakunta junction, about 10 km from Puttaparthi headquarters. They seized 20,000 euros in cash and 14 items from her parade, including leaflets on revolutionary literature. She appeared in court and was remanded in custody.

SP Madhava Reddy called on the Maoists who are still on the run to surrender and join the mainstream of life. He promised that the government would help them live safe and happy lives with their families.
